A Bench, a Loupe,
and the Work Itself
escapementaad is a small watch repair workshop in Johor Bahru. We take in movements that need attention — timing work, crystal replacement, and full mechanical servicing — and we give each one the time it deserves.
What We Work On
Three services, each described from the component outward. If a watch falls outside these categories, we will say so at intake.
Timing Adjustment & Regulation
The escapementaad wheel advances the hands one tooth at a time with each swing of the balance. When that rate drifts, you feel it. A short bench session on the Witschi machine — five positions, light regulation, a follow-up timing pass — returns the movement to where it should be. Suitable for watches serviced within the last three years.
- Timing in five positions
- Light regulation of the regulator lever
- Follow-up pass after adjustment
- One-page timing record for the customer
Sapphire Crystal Replacement
The crystal sits between the movement and the outside world. A crack or deep scratch changes how a watch looks and can compromise the case seal over time. We source an appropriate replacement, fit it with the correct gasket and tension ring, clean the case exterior, and run a static pressure check to confirm the case closes as it should.
- Replacement with correct gasket & tension ring
- Case-side cleaning during fitment
- Static water-resistance check
- Replacement specification note for customer
Comprehensive Service — Late-Model Mechanicals
For mechanical and automatic movements that have not been on a bench in four to seven years. A full strip-down: ultrasonic cleaning, fresh lubrication at the correct friction points, replacement of worn parts, regulation across five positions, and a static pressure check. The customer receives a long-form report noting timing rates, amplitude, and beat-error figures.
- Written intake note & full disassembly
- Ultrasonic cleaning & correct lubrication
- Replacement of common wear items
- Long-form report: timing, amplitude, beat error
How the Work Gets Done
Written Intake, Every Time
Every watch that comes in receives a written intake note describing its condition before any work begins. You have a record of what was observed, not just what was done.
Witschi Machine Measurement
Timing work is done with a Witschi timegrapher, not by feel. Rates before and after adjustment are documented and handed to the customer.
Case Integrity After Service
Crystal replacement and comprehensive servicing both include a static pressure check on the case. If the case does not close as it should, we say so before returning it.
Ultrasonic Cleaning
Full service jobs go through the ultrasonic cleaner before reassembly. Old lubricant and debris are removed from every component, not brushed aside.
Point-Specific Lubrication
Different friction surfaces need different lubricants applied in precise volumes. We follow the manufacturer specifications for each movement rather than a general approach.
Service Report for Your Records
Comprehensive service includes a long-form report covering timing rates, amplitude, and beat-error figures. Something concrete to keep alongside the watch.
Is Your Watch Due for the Bench?
If you are unsure whether a watch needs work, send us a short note. We will let you know honestly whether it falls within our scope and what an intake would involve.
